- Location and Positioning : GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, BeiDou, OTDA
Chip set Features:
Deap and Extended Coverage:
The device is designed to connect things that are located in remote location. To connect in these areas that are located far from the base station, the chip utilizes low frequency bands which have excellent performance in terms of coverage. This allows small-sized data to be sent or received reliably over a long distance with greater efficiency. Furthermore, the Exynos i S111 is designed with advanced signal processing algorithm that offers higher link budget which means higher expected uplink SNR resulting in wider coverage.
Long Battery Life
NB-IoT applications expect support of a battery life of more than 10 years for a wide range of use cases. The Exynos i S111 is also designed to operate with extremely low power consumption. With dynamic frequency scaling for CPU and interface, the Exynos i S111 features PSM (Power Saving Mode) that allows user equipment notify its indefinite dormant state to the network and eDRX (extended Discontinuous Reception) that enables user equipment to sleep without regular network check-in for up to 40 minutes.
Location Reporting with High Accuracy
Many of NB-IoT use case required location reporting with high accuracy. The Exynos i S111 utilizes two different positioning technologies for accurate user equipment tracking in real-time. The Exynos i S111 integrates Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) that supports GPS, Galileo, GLONASS, and BeiDou. The Exynos i S111 also supports Observed Time Difference of Arrival (OTDOA) that utilizes positioning reference signals transmitted in the downlink to enhance positioning information. This enables diverse tracking applications for connected things such as bike sharing, kids tracker and livestock monitoring services.
Single Chip Solution
Samsung’s advanced design technology packs diverse components for the all-in-one NB-IoT solution in a single chip. It features Cortex-M7 core as a main CPU with a static RAM, a modem and an RF IC for connectivity, and a GNSS for location services. With coin-sized small footprint, the Exynos i S111 enables tiny IoT module design for user equipment.
Security and Reliability
As IoT devices provide convenient services based on private information, it is becoming highly potential target for cyber-attacksor security threats. The Exynos i S111 features on-chip security sub-system and PUF (Physically Unclonable Functions) to support Isolated Execution Environment (IEE) powered by dedicated processing unit. PUF security feature generates and utilizes a unique key, or silicon fingerprint, for safer certification when an IoT module communicates with a server.
