In our last post, we discussed the the reference architecture for O-RAN Radio Unit (O-RU) and introduce the different subsystem e.g Synch and Fronthaul Transport, Lower PHY,  Digital Front End (DFE) and RF Front End (RF FE).

Recently, Xilinx announced the new Zynq® RFSoC DFE, combining hardened digital front end (DFE) blocks with adaptive logic for mass radio deployment. The solution addresses a broad array of 5G NR use cases ranging across 5G low, mid, and high band spectrums, as well as a breadth of other RF applications including phased array radar and communications test equipment.

By integrating more hardened IP than soft logic, Zynq RFSoC DFE is a new class of adaptive radio platforms offering the best balance of technologies – the cost economies of an ASIC using hardened blocks with the flexibility, scalability, and time-to-market advantages of a programmable and adaptive SoC.
