What are the most common Test Cases for 5G Device Verification?

As per 3GPP specifications, the 5G is design and developed to support three major use cases i.e. eMBB (Enhanced Mobile Broadband), URLLC (Ultra Reliable Low Latency Communication) and mMTC (Massive Machine Type Communication). During the first phase of 5G we will be using the eMBB service with Mobile Devices, CPEs etc.

When a new device is launched by any Device Manufacture (Samsung, Vivo, Apple etc.), it goes through Device Inter-operatability procedure where service provider (Operator) and device vendor agrees on certain test cases. The agreed Inter-op testcases are performed in lab and field environment. In this post we have captured, the most common test cases performed recommended by Next Generation Mobile Networks Alliance

  • Test to verify, the network selection priority as 5G > LTE for SA network mode for 5G UE
  • Test to verify , the network selection priority order  as LTE > 3G > 2G For NSA network mode
  • Test to verify, the network selection priority as SA > NSA for the UEs supporting NSA and SA
  • Test to verify 5G UE support RSRP/RSRQ/SINR measurement including NR intra-frequency and inter frequency measurements
  • Test to verify UE support Intra-RAT Cell reselection and Handover
  • Test to verify UE support  single-registration mode in SA network mode with N26 interface
  • Test to verify UE support 5G->4G interworking procedure with the N26 interface: Cell reselection, Handover and Redirection
  • Test to verify UE support 4G->5G interworking procedure with the N26 interface: Cell reselection and Redirection
  • Test to verify UE support  4G->5G interworking procedure with the N26 interface: Handover
  • Test to verify UE support  single-registration mode in SA network mode without N26 interface
  • Test to verify UE support 5G->4G interworking procedure with out the N26 interface: Cell reselection and Redirection
  • Test to verify UE support 4G->5G interworking procedure with out the N26 interface: Cell reselection and Redirection
  • Test to verify UE support fast return to NR network at the end of EPS Fallback voice service
  • Test to verify UE support NR frequency search and access according to RRC Connection Release message when Fast return by Redirection signaling is supported by network
  • Test to verify UE support NR frequency search and access when Fast return by Redirection signaling is not supported by network
  • Test to verify UE support the above return mechanism at the end of VoLTE voice service after performing handover from VoNR voice service to VoLTE voice service and if there is no data service
  • Test to verify UE support For 4G->5G interoperability, support background search in idle state in the case that 4G network is not configured with 5G neighbourhood cell
  • Test to verify UE support In a EN-DC configuration, addition of SCG with asynchronous E-UTRAN and NR networks

Voice Services Verification
